When everyone is booked and busy, how do you make sure that you are carving out time to cultivate relationships with the folks that mean the most to you but may not be in close proximity?
Be Intentional
Set a reminder to call/text/FaceTime (with all of the technology we have access to - there really is no excuse) your loved ones when you can’t meet up in person.
Designate a specific day/time when both of you are free. Block that time off on your calendar and even send a calendar invite so you both are on the same page.
My mom and I have a standing Friday morning “coffee chat” meet-up at one of our local coffee spots. We take turns treating each other and sit for about an hour and chat before we start our work days. Sometimes my kids tag along and now it's a cute little tradition we've established.
Find a Theme
One of my favorite things is good food. Luckily, this is a commonality among my sister circle so 9 times out of 10, we are linking up to eat and kee-kee. You can’t go wrong with catching up over a great meal and cocktail or two or three - getting a few side-eyes because you’re cackling a little too loud (sorry not sorry)
BE PRESENT!
I put this one in CAPS because it's the most important, in my opinion. The purpose of the link (whether virtual or in-person) is to spend quality time with one of your faves. You can't do that if you're distracted. Here are a few tips to make sure you stay in the moment:
Put your phone on DND - the great thing about these smartphones is they can do smart things :)
Ask "What's New"? - if you haven't talked to your person in a while, more than likely, things have changed because as we know - life comes at us fast!
Set a date for the next meet-up.
And finally, if the meeting is in person, take an obligatory selfie! 🥰
We get daily reminders of how short life is. Make sure you're never too busy to make time for the ones you love and the ones that hold you down when life gets tough.
Until next time...
-Muvah 😘✌🏾
